From June 19, 2026 Online stores must provide customers with an online withdrawal button (Art. 11a of Directive 2011/83/EU, as amended by Directive (EU) 2023/2673; in Italy, Art. 54-bis of the Consumer Code). This plugin adds it to WooCommerce/FunnelKit with a simple two-step process and—the part that really matters—the legal proof that the withdrawal has been exercised.

WooCommerce stores that sell to consumers in the EU and must comply with the new online right of withdrawal requirement.

What does the law say

The Directive (EU) 2023/2673 introduced the'Article 11a Under the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU): for distance contracts concluded through an online interface, the trader must provide a withdrawal function that makes the exercise of the right at least as easy as the conclusion of the contract.

In Italy, transposition took place with the Legislative Decree 209/2025, who inserted the'Article 54-bis of the Consumer Code. The obligation applies to contracts concluded starting from June 19, 2026.

How does it work

    The customer finds the button

    In the "Orders" section of your account, via a link in WooCommerce order emails, or on a public page where you just need your order number and email address: even those who purchased as guests, without an account, can access the form.

    Fill out the form in two steps

    Review the order — and you can select only some products, because partial withdrawal is allowed — then confirm. No mandatory reason, no hidden steps.

    Get the trial right away

    The confirmation of receipt on a durable medium is sent instantly: an email with the text of the declaration, an attached PDF, and a permanent verifiable link, all with the exact date and time.

    You see the request and refund

    The order is marked as "return requested" and appears in the Requests dashboard with its status (open, processed, refunded). You process the refund through WooCommerce, as usual.

    Everything remains demonstrable

    Every step ends up in an immutable ledger, hash-chained and timestamped via OpenTimestamps. If a client disputes something tomorrow, you have the proof.

What the plugin doesn't do

  • It does not issue automatic refunds. The refund is still your operational decision: you process it via WooCommerce, and it is recorded as proof.
  • It does not rewrite your legal documents. Generate the ready-to-paste clauses for terms of sale, pre-contractual information, and privacy policy, but the documents remain yours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since when is it mandatory?
For distance contracts concluded starting from June 19, 2026. If you sell to consumers in the European Union through a website or an app, it applies to you from that date, regardless of the platform you use.
Does the button replace the withdrawal form (Annex I-B)?
No. The standard form remains mandatory and must be made available before the purchase: the button is just a method. additional and it's simpler. The plugin also generates that form, with a shortcode to be included in the pre-contractual information.
How does a customer who bought as a guest, without an account, make a return?
In two ways, both active immediately: from the link in the order email, or from the public return page by entering your order number and email. There is no need to create an account — that would be an obstacle, and the law requires that returning an item be as easy as buying one.
Do I need to add consent at checkout?
No, not for the withdrawal. The only consent that the plugin collects automatically concerns the exemptions under Article 59 and appears only for digital products with immediate access or services performed immediately.
What happens with digital products or services already rendered?
These are the cases where the right of withdrawal may not apply, but only if you have collected the customer's explicit consent and acknowledgment. The plugin manages them: you tag the products by statutory reason, consent is collected at checkout and stored as proof. Without valid consent, the button remains visible — the prudent choice in favor of the consumer.
Is the refund automatic?
No, and that's a choice. The plugin records the cancellation and notifies you; you process the refund yourself through WooCommerce, and it is noted in the log as proof that the refund was processed.
Does the plugin send data to external services?
For timestamping only, and solely a cryptographic fingerprint: a hash of the record is sent to the OpenTimestamps service, never personal data, names, emails, order contents, or IP addresses. You can disable it completely in the settings. No trackers or remote scripts are loaded on your site.
Does it work with FunnelKit or with a staged checkout?
With both. The plugin is compatible with HPOS and the WooCommerce block-based checkout; on FunnelKit, it adds a link to the thank-you page, consent on the Aero checkout, and a merge tag for Automations. In any case, the cancellation option is always accessible from the customer area and the public page.
